My name is Hannah Disbrow and I am a registered dietitian who is passionate about helping those with eating disorders realize they are capable of having a healthy relationship with both food and their body. I have experience in both clinical and outpatient settings working with a wide variety of individuals with eating disorders or disordered eating tendencies, such as chronic/cyclic dieting, orthorexia, and compulsive exercise. I strive to create an environment that is inclusive and compassionate for my clients to begin the healing process. My passion is nutrition counseling in which I get to transform people’s way of life through the power and knowledge of food and nutrition. I believe in my ability to help clients discover a healthier and happier life without giving up the foods they love.
I also was a dancer for 14 years and competitively danced for 8 years. After high school, I taught as a competitive dance instructor at a studio and as a Varsity High School dance team coach for 4 years. This is what originated my drive to become a dietitian. I want to help combat the diet culture that is present in not only our sports teams but also in our society.
As a dietitian specializing in eating disorders, I follow a HAES (Health at Every Size), intuitive eating, and “all foods fit” approach. I strongly believe that nutrition and eating disorders are not “one size fits all”, which is why I utilize an individualized approach for every one of my clients. In my sessions I help build body confidence, eliminate food judgements, decrease the stress/anxiety around food, increase food flexibility, and introduce mindful eating strategies.
My education includes a Bachelors in Nutrition & Food Science from Wayne State University, a Masters in Nutrition & Dietetics from Madonna University, and completed my dietetic internship with the University of Michigan.
Outside of work, I have implemented intuitive eating and mindful movement into my own life. I am a true “foodie” and love trying new foods everywhere I go. In terms of mindful movement, I love strength training, walking my dog, hiking, yoga, golf, and dancing. I was a dancer for 14 years and competitively danced for 8 years. After high school, I taught as a competitive dance instructor at a studio and as a Varsity High School dance team coach for 4 years. In addition to my love for movement and dance, I also love spending time outside, reading, and attending sporting events. Go Lions!
